I am so Bored

I am so bored…

Think this often? well, here are some things you can have a look at today.

Read about the battle of  five forks

The Battle of Five Forks was fought on April 1, 1865, southwest of Petersburg, Virginia, in Dinwiddie County, during the Appomattox Campaign of the American Civil War. The battle, sometimes referred to as the “Waterloo of the Confederacy,” pitted Union Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan against Confederate Maj. Gen. George E. Pickett of Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. Pickett’s loss at Five Forks triggered Lee’s decision to abandon his entrenchments around Petersburg and begin the retreat that led to his surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9.

The human heart creates enough pressure while pumping to squirt blood 30 feet!!

If you know any weird facts, please post your weird facts in the comments.

molecular nanobots

While many in the nanotech establishment dismiss molecular nanobots as science fiction many of the recent breakthroughs in nanobiotech point to the emergence of hybrid biomechanical nanomachines Molecular Nanobot in the Bloodstream In Japan photo-reactive nanocrystals are being developed for more efficient solar cell production. Rice University is developing methods that use the reactivity of nanoparticles to clean contaminants, especially biological contaminants from water. In agriculture, nano-sensors will be sprinkled on crops or soil to monitor temperature, water, salinity, nitrogen and disease. Robert Freitas is developing an artificial red blood cell able to deliver 236 times more oxygen to tissues than natural red blood cells.

Brain Types

The descriptions below (except for the physical attributes) are similar to the 16 personality types that have been popularized and expanded in recent years from the early 20th century typological findings of Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung. Unlike Jung’s oft-errant psychological theories, his personality evaluations were insightful and based upon observing “normal” behavior in thousands of people over the course of his lifetime.

BTI’s independent studies and experiences have led us to concur that there are sixteen “types.” However, our belief concerning the various types is quite different from the norm. We distinguish these differing designs as Brain Types—found in all people the world over—each with unique cerebral/cognitive, physical/motor and visual/spatial skill proficiencies. The short definitions below of each Brain Type are only simple summaries—generic descriptions for the majority within each category. Though personas can vary significantly within individuals of each Brain Type (due to nurture: parenting, upbringing, etc., and nature: genetic variances), we believe that differing inborn neural circuits in each BT affect specific cognitive, physical, and spatial skills and that these similarities within each design are due to genetic hardwiring—nature.

BTI has built upon the empirical data collected by Jung and subsequent protagonists of his by applying neuroscientific, genetic, and biomechanical studies implemented by others and us. Our attempt has been to take Jung’s “soft’ typological findings into the 21st century “hard” sciences for verification. Our efforts have convinced us that Jung, including his modern-day devotees, was (and are) on the right track—though we believe they are far removed from the accuracy and scientific understanding now available for evaluating human behavior (cognitive, physical, and spatial).

Dead Technology Advetisements, wow

These are really great. I remember when some of them came out, oh, the excitement. :)

12 “Dead Technology” Advertisements

It is interesting to look back at the various ways that technology has been advertised to consumers over the past several decades. It is particularly interesting to look back at these advertisements when the featured products have been made obsolete. From the BetaMax to the HD DVD the following are a list of the ads from technology that are either in dead or dying format, or those which are no longer in production.

Dial Up Internet

sourcePerhaps the most important technological innovation since the television was the consumer availability of the internet and its subsequent online community. Most people remember what it was like to access the internet back in the early 1990s: you were required to dial up, hope that a connection would be established, and then log onto a network that moved at a snail’s pace. In short, it was slow computers and even slower connections. But, it was impressive at the time nonetheless.
